Wedding :: Christina & Alex

After shooting Christina and Alex’s engagement session in late summer, I thought that would be it in terms of photography for them. However, Christina called me up later in the fall to ask if I might be available on her wedding day. Seeing as I was, I trekked out to Rockford and Freeport, Illinois, for her late fall Friday wedding. While it was the longest wedding I’ve done, it was also the easiest, as everyone was a complete pleasure on the day of the wedding, and Christina had paced her day out incredibly well. Below you’ll find a few of my favourite photographs (and there were so many!), along with a slideshow of even more of my favourites. I’m thrilled to pieces with how these images turned out, and I hope you both are too!

A note: Some of these images might look a bit uncharacteristic of my usual style. Black and white played much more heavily in the telling of Alex & Christina’s wedding, and I also explored a lot with textures, spending a lot of time on images, working with them, testing them out, blending them until they felt “right.” As I’ve been fortunate to have more clients, and as I’ve been able to meet so many clients and talk about their wedding with them, I’ve been trying to hone in more on exactly what my style and approach to weddings is. As I’ve worked with and shot more couples, and as I have been blessed to have clients who are looking for something a bit different, detailed, and unique, I’ve realized that I really do approach each wedding as an artist. I don’t see myself just as a photographer who shows up, takes some shots, spits out the files and sends them onto my clients. Rather, I really do try to think about who are the people that I’m working with, what does their relationship “feel” and “look like” to me, and then approach each session, whether that be an engagement or wedding, and attempt to visually convey the nature of their relationship and their love. This is why, although I feel I definitely have a “style” that is cohesive, each of my sessions does have a slightly different feel to it. It’s really exciting for me to work with couples who are interested in having this sort of approach and perspective given to their event, so I thank everyone who I work with for trusting in me to express your love.

I hope everyone has a happy new year. I may do a post on my thoughts of 07, because, my, what a year it was for me. Here is hoping yours is filled with joy, love, and many fabulous moments.

I like shots where the groom is holding the flowers—a bit nontraditional, and the black always makes a great background for the colours of the flowers:1102flowers.jpg

Christina wanted LOTS of pictures outside, so went to a nearby park, and spent a few hours dashing in and out of a heated car. It was freezing—she and everyone in the party were troopers.

I love this moment of Alex helping her down a hill that I made them go up.
