New albums

Albums have become so important to me this year. Last year, a lot of my clients were getting just a DVD of files, but this year, almost all of my clients have opted for an album and I have been more vocal about trying to ensure each client gets one. For me, the album feels like the final piece to the photography puzzle. The hundreds of photographs you receive from the day can serve as the photojournalistic record of the day, but for me, the album is the real piece of artwork that can be treasured in your family and passed down. Even as computers change or the way we digitally view files may adapt, a beautiful archival album can always be a part of your family heirloom.

I recently started offering a new album type, which I am calling the Couture Album. These albums are SO beautiful and I am so very excited to offer them. A few of my clients have already opted for these and received their own, and they have been a huge hit. Here is what one of my clients wrote me after receiving her boudoir album in this style: “Olivia, All I can say is WOW!  The album is absolutely beautiful - truly so much better than I ever could have imagined.  I’m so happy you convinced me to upgrade - the quality of this blows me away, and now that I’ve seen it I don’t feel bad about paying a bit extra.”

Here are some images of Meagan + Nick’s engagement album. We did theirs in a chocolate satin cover. The cameo on here is actually printed onto a piece of metal—it is so neat and very unique. I have also done these in black and white leathers with center cameos, and I will be ordering a new sample album in this style hopefully over the weekend (so indecisive about which wedding to order!).

My favourite spread. I really love using albums as an art showcase rather than just a jumble of images.

These are similar in style to the Luxe albums, with thick, lustrey pages. The finish is a little bit different—more of a smooth gloss-lustre rather than the more textured lustre of the Luxe albums, and it is just a bit lighter. Some people really love the heft of the Luxe, but if you are looking for a beautiful album on thick, lustre photographic paper but don’t want it to be quite as weighty, this is a great option.

Meag’s favourite image.

I also got in a new artbook for Mary and Dan. This was such an amazing session and I was also doubly thrilled that they decided to add so many art pieces to their collection at home, going with one lovely 16x20 canvas of their favourite image, a few 10x15s of the grass series (below), and a beautiful album to hold the rest of the images.

I have written about the artbooks before but these are another lovely option, with custom photo covers and a fine art matte paper inside that is much thinner than the Luxe and Couture books but still sturdy and lays flat.

And here are the 3 different album types I offer: Luxe, Artbook and Couture (also total coincidence that they are all gold and brown).

And a photo of the different thicknesses.

These albums are sweet looking. I, too, have come around to the beauty of offering albums this year. They are really a fabulous way to remember your wedding or engagement, and each couple should have one. Thanks!
