Hadley and Matt are a beautiful couple that I had the pleasure to meet and work with last month. They are getting married downtown next summer, but, like many of my couples opt to, decided to do their session in an opposite season. Here in Chicago we are so blessed (and cursed!) to have such a range of different seasonal looks, so whenever possible I love to do the session in the spring or summer and the wedding in the fall or winter, or vice versa. We started the shoot at their home in Wicker Park. I have been going to more clients’ homes this year, and have really enjoyed it. I don’t think there is any easier way to learn more about a couple and what they like and what their style is than visiting their house. Hadley and Matt have the coziest home that complements their kind and relaxed personalities; in Wicker Park but tucked away from the craziness, quiet and sunny, a home filled with photos, cooking, a wealth of plants and two adorable pups. Many thanks to one of my favorites, Lauren from LK Events for connecting with this great couple!

Anni and Ross are high school sweethearts who are now in college in Lincoln Park. They have created such a lovely little life for themselves, with a gorgeous apartment in Lakeview, an often-used kitchen, and a sweet dog named Sunday. I hadn’t met them before this session, but I was so happy to be able to work with them. They are such a cute couple, and both just radiate joy; I don’t think I have ever had a couple laugh so much and so openly throughout a shoot. Anni also completely turned it out with the chicest little outfit (skirt from Roslyn), and combined with perfect weather and a gorgeous sunset, I have trouble imagining a better shoot.

Andrea and Patrick are a great couple getting married at Salvage One later this fall. They live on a cute block in Humboldt Park with a cute pit bull that they rescued. We decided to shoot in their neighborhood for their engagement connection session, capturing some urban elements that Pat and Andrea love, along with a trip to gorgeous Humboldt Park proper.

Despite living in Chicago for a very long while, I had never been up to Lake Geneva, so when Nicole and Matt asked to do their session up there, I was excited to get out of the familiar Chicago spots and shoot in some new surroundings! We started in the old-timey downtown area to help create some portraits that had the vintage feel they were after, but on my way into town I noticed so many gorgeous fields and pretty much insisted we backtrack and shoot a few there. I was so happy we did, as those were my favourites of the day. I think if I could shoot in warehouses one day and fields the next for the rest of my life, I would be a happy lady. These two are just adorable together. Some of the photos below are so almost overwhelmingly sweet, but that is just how they are as a couple! So open and affectionate. I cannot wait for their vintage-inspired winter wedding later this year at an old, magnificent theatre where they will be getting married on the stage.

Holland and Nate had one of the most serendipitious meetings of any of my couples: a few years ago, they each attended a Halloween party, discovered their costumes matched, and the rest is history. As I was shooting and editing these, I was thinking how amazing life can be—one day you can walk into a party, meet a stranger, and a few years later you’re living with that person in a house filled to the brim with art and a menagerie of pets. Pretty incredible! This session was a pleasure to shoot; Holland has such a strong sense of style and had pretty developed ideas for the shoot, and I was so happy with how it all came together. They are getting married in and moving to Holland’s home state of Louisiana later this year, and it was a pleasure to shoot some to commemorate their years in Chicago.
