Meagan and Drew were another great couple that we met at Indie Wed last year. I don’t know what it is about that event, but it really led me to some of my favourite couples—all incredibly fun and kind. I always view my mission as trying to capture the essence of each couple, and Meag and Drew are at their core, an incredibly *fun* couple. These two had a blast all day and you could tell they were just so excited to get married. Meagan wore this incredible tulle confection—a beautifully whimsical dress. However, it was one of the windiest days of the year (and it is often windy) and it was incredibly amusing for us to watch the dress behave, or misbehave, as the case may have been! They also introduced me to the concept of the wonderfully fun “second grade portrait,” for which I will always be grateful. :)
Along with their great energy and attitudes, they also managed to have one of the prettiest weddings of the year. They were married at the peak of fall at Meagan’s home church in Western Springs, where her dad directs their wonderful music program. After that we returned to the city for a reception at Cafe Brauer, and with its location in the heart of Lincoln Park., it was a gorgeous setting for this autumn day We were rushing to get back to the city in rush hour, and as the light was quickly dwindling, I became nervous that we’d run out of sunlight, but the fates intervened and we were instead met with one of the most beautiful sunsets of the year. I also haven’t been sharing many bouquets this year but had to post some from this wedding, designed by Stems—just so gorgeous!
2011—what a year! I am usually quite good at synthesizing my feelings and summarizing a year, but 2011 was a very unique one that I’m still wrapping my head around. A big, intense, rollercoaster of a year, it was! All in all, I felt like it was 12 months of growth, both personally and professionally, a year in which I was constantly learning more about what I love. The change over to 2012 has left me feeling so motivated and excited about the coming season—I feel so focused and clear about the year ahead, and truly do feel that it will be such a good one.
This past year brought with it so many incredible weddings—preparing this post I almost can’t believe some of these events took place this year! I would be remiss not to thank everyone who allowed me to be a part of their lives this year—Annie & Brian, Amy & David, Lindsey & Mike, Resmi & Samir, Hadley & Matt, Whitney & John, Dan & Keila, Sundeep & Megan, Kat & Joff, Diana & Mike, Laura & Elliot, Nick & Rebecca, Matt & Mindy, Nick & Maggie, Danielle & Eric, Rachel & Daniel, Vin & Reena, Cassidy & Adam, Abby & Michael, Katy & Alex, Arun & Lauren, Meagan & Drew, Kat & John, Erica & Tom, Mary Kay & John Mark, as well as Christina & Mike, Umberto & Emily, Morgan & Stefan, Jerry & Perla, Suzanne & Matt, Lori, Meghan & Brian, and all of the incredible 2012 clients I’ve already had a pleasure to work with. Thank you thank you for all being so open, trusting, kind and an absolute pleasure to spend my weekends with. :) And, as always, an enormous thanks to all the other incredible photographers and vendors I’ve had the pleasure to work with this year, as well as friends and loved ones who put up with my kooky schedule and have always been there for support and levity during the thickest of seasons.
Cheers and Happy New Year—May this one be the best!
Last year, I participated in Indie Wed for the first time, not really sure what to expect. I was so impressed by the quality and variety of vendors at the event, and ended up being blown away by the response! I met some of my favourite 2011 + 2012 couples at the event, and consequently am so very excited to be a part of the event again this year. Held on Saturday, January 28, at the Ravenswood Event Center, this wedding show is unlike any other “bridal show,” and is such a great resource for the creatively-minded couple or traditional folks who want to infuse a little something unique into their celebration. Please come say hello at our booth! Tickets are $15 for one or $25 for two and can be purchased here. In celebration of the event, I’ll be giving away six tickets. To enter, simply leave a comment below, saying why you’re interested in checking out the event, and whether you would be interested in a single or double set of tickets. Contest closes January 15 and winners will be randomly selected. Hope to see everyone later this month!
