Does anyone else feel like 2009 when stylized wedding photographs really exploded? I feel like last year was the year when brides all across the country really became concerned with styling their wedding photos, really considering props and accessories and how the end photo would look.
One of the big trends that I’ve seen over the past few years has been wedding parasols. But unlike some trends feel completely dated five years from now, parasols have that perpetually classic look, evoking romance and style regardless of the decade. Megan had parasols for her guests at her outdoor Morton Arboretum wedding, and we also took a few photographs with it after the ceremony.
Below are some great resources for beautiful parasols of all different types!
Bella Umbrella has the most amazing selection of vintage umbrellas. They are very pricey to buy, the site actually allows you to rent them. Sounds a little crazy, but a great option if you know you aren’t going to be carrying a ruffled pink parasol around downtown again anytime soon.

For traditional paper parasols, Pearl River and Asian Imports have great deals. You can pick up a range of lovely parasols for your bridesmaids for less than $50 in many cases
eBay is also a great resource for vintage-inspired parasols. I have always loved battenburg-style parasols for their romantic and mysterious potential in photos. eBay has great deals in a selection of colours, including soft pastels for a sweet vintage look, or even black for a crisp, modern style.
And if you want something completely unique, I have always loved these handpainted parasols from I Do Originals. They are just so lovely and make for beautiful photographs; particularly great for a thank you or post-wedding card.

If you know of any other great umbrella/parasols outlets, leave a note in the comments. I always like to keep my list current!
After a good go at it earlier this summer, I completely fell behind on blogging fabulous inspiration and great wedding ideas that I have run across this year. I have a new project coming this winter that will help to better organize all of these little tidbits of inspiration and can’t wait to share that soon. That said, I ran across these dresses from Carol Hannah of Project Runway fame, and thought they were just lovely. The ice blue would be a gorgeous non-traditional dress, and also so pretty and classic in ivory, or for a glamourous bridesmaid option in a richer colour. The pink ruffle dress would be so chic in so many contexts—I can see it easily fitting in at a cute, girly garden wedding, or a stylish loft wedding downtown.

You can buy these from Carol Hannah’s wedding collection site on etsy
So busy this week with great client meetings and finishing up things before D.C. tomorrow, but my friend sent me a link to this video today, and I had to share. Over the top and a little ridiculous, but so fun and joyful. Made me smile. Worth watching til the end.
Most people who know me know I love fashion, and while I have been extremely responsible this year with style purchases, I do take a peek at one of my favourite style sites, Gilt Groupe, most days. Gilt is a private site that features unique, higher-end designer brands at prices that are up to 70 percent off. They have several designers featured each day, and each sale only lasts 36 hours. I have always thought it would be a great resource for modern, non-traditional bridesmaid dresses at fantastic prices, and their jewelry selection also makes for lovely gifts and modern bridal jewelry. You’d have to be very quick to snatch up a few dresses for your maids, but if you have just 2 or 3 to create a look for, it could be a wonderful resource.
Again, selection changes literally every day and pieces go so quickly, but here are a few that were on the site today that I thought would be nice bridesmaids options for a chic city wedding.

Satin beaded dress by Shoshanna. Regular $450, Gilt price $168.

Brocade dress by Shoshanna. Regular $310, Gilt price $128.

Obviously this one is a little, okay, a lot, more quirky, but I think it would be so fabulous for a really clean, modern loft wedding with a super chic couple. Also fabulous for pictures. Organza Mischen dress. Regular $648, Gilt Price $248.

Nice alternative, affordable alternative to diamonds for bridal or bridemaids jewelry. White topaz earrings by Anzie. Regular $475, Gilt price $195.

A pop of colour for bridesmaids in otherwise understated dresses. Nice gift too for a maid of honor or someone else special. Blue topaz necklace by Anzie. Regular $225, Gilt price $112.
Gilt is invite-only, so you just need an invite from someone who has already received one. I have a few left; if any of my lovely clients want one, feel free to email!
So maybe I’m not allowed to say this, but garter tosses? Sort of silly in my mind. I think I have only had a couple do them once or twice. And to each their own, but if it were me I wouldn’t necessarily want my husband getting frisky with my legs in front of my guests. That said, a garter is a lovely little accessory that can make for a special little surprise, and if you’re going to wear one, might as well have it be lovely, right? I was perusing etsy today and came across these, which I am over the moon for. Would also be so gorgeous for a boudoir session.
